Since completing the Fast ForWord program, Paul now contributes to conversations, discusses his emotions and is willing to learn. He will now read a book in bed at night, which is a miraculous change. His comprehension skills are greatly improved along with his overall academic performance. 
High School Language Checklist

A high school student may have a language disability if the student has any of the  problems in the Pre-School Checklist, or the  Primary School Checklist, and/or has problems:


- understanding sarcastic comments, slang and figurativeq expressions (for example, let the cat out of the bag)

- recognising and enjoying implied humourq


- developing ‘critical thinking’ skills such as:q

    • Recognising similarities and differences
    • Linking new information to previously known information
    • Distinguishing relevant from irrelevant information
    • Differentiating facts from opinions or beliefs
    • Making plausible inferences and predictions
    • Evaluating the credibility of sources
    • Identifying problems and generating multiple solutions
 

- using critical thinking skills to analyse poems, novels and plays

- writing, planning and editing assignments and essays
